#1- Final Project Idea
Hello, welcome to my first blog post for my AICE Media Studies final project. I
have only had a short time to brainstorm my idea for my final project because I
have to be reassessed on my AICE Media Studies knowledge because I'm taking A
level Media Studies two years later. However, the brainstorming process has been good. The genres that I will incorporate in my final project are comedy and
drama with a little bit of romance. The themes of my film will be coming of age, edgy
teenage years, and the end of childhood. These different aspects with a female
teenager lead will make this relatable to specific audience. This audience being
younger and older woman that have been through girlhood. It is important to make
your film relatable, so you can have the a powerful impact of the audience and
make them feel empathy towards the narrative you are sharing.
Being a creative person is not enough to create a great story. To perfect my story I'm trying to
tell I will need inspiration. A director's work that I have enjoyed for a long
time is Greta Gerwig. Her 2017 film "Lady Bird" and her 2019 film "Little Women"
are very important films to me. They are very relatable coming age films that
cover themes of girlhood and longing for living a life worth something. They are not only important to me personally, but they
helped guide me to what I want my final project about. The top picture is from Lady Bird and the bottom picture is from Little Women.
I want my main character to be a young woman that is going through her teenage years, specifically senior year. Her girlhood is coming to an end, she is conflicted because her childhood has flown by and she isn't prepared for life and womanhood. She doesn't yet understand she has many years ahead of her to live, she wants to feel alive and do something great with her life. In her senior year its her goal to create or make something/make her life have meaning. The audience will follow her in her trials and tribulations of senior year. That being how she goes about day to day as a high school student including her relationships with friends, family and boys.
My current name for my final project is "Who She Is." I haven't yet decided my character's name, some name ideas I have so far are Georgina, Aurora, or Elosie. She'll have a complicated relationship with her mother like Lady Bird, this will be because they butt heads from being too alike. Her father will treat her like his "little girl" forever, this infuriates her mother because he's making her the bad cop and it infuriates the main character because she isn't a little girl anymore. She will have have some friends, I do want her to have a love interest and one close friend that is a girl. The only thing I'm worried about is who is going to play any of my characters. I may pull from friends I have at school, I will make another blog post when I finalize my character names and actors.
I'm very excited for my final project process!
