#24- Filming Day Two

September 21, 2023

Location: My House/ My Neighborhood

Time: Mid-Late Afternoon

Today I filmed the rest, a majority, of my final project. I had my actors Karah and Reese drive out to the location of filming, which was my house and neighborhood.

Once they both arrived at my house, we began filming. However, we didn't go in the order of my script. Which it will still be able to edit them when I transport them to my computer by file name, even if they are out of order. I will write down the names of the files in the order I want them to go after each other when I edit.

We began filming the scenes with Karah and my mother (Aurora and her mother). We filmed a pan of Karah walking into the kitchen and grabbing an apple and the conversation between her character and her character's mother. My mother is not the best actress, but we got the shot after putting a note card with her lines in the sink for her. She was able to read off that and execute her role good. We recorded the audio for this on voice memos, which I will add to the final project in the editing process. This is because my camera didn't pick the audio up good in this scene. Inside we also filmed the scene where Karah's character walks away (puts back her headphones in) and goes out the front door.

The next shots we filmed were outside. We filmed a shot of Karah's character walking out of the front door to the street. I filmed this shot a low-angle long-shot, because I wanted the audience to see the house and I will use the sky above the house to put the title card. The music I plan on putting in will play during this but will cut when Reese's character enters the shot of her walking on the street. In this shot I had Reese come and hug Karah to show how close Aurora and Josie's relationship is. In the next shot I had planned on doing a dolly of my characters speaking to each other. I was able to execute a dolly on the back of my golf cart. I wanted it to be one full shot without cutting, so it was hard for them to remember their lines. After a few takes they finally go it!! I had been recording it on voice memos in Reese's back pocket, however, it came out horrible! The camera audio was better in all honesty, so I'll be using that audio instead of added audio in the final cut.

(the girls re-reading the script)

For the last shot outside I wanted to film the reverse zoom I have been planning. I was struggling so much with getting it perfect. I had to do so many takes because it was choppy and wouldn't focus. It also begun to rain on us. I ended up only being satisfied with the first take I took. It is not perfect, but it wasn't raining and wasn't as blurry as the other takes.

Our last shots we took were inside. Now that we saw it was raining we were thankful we didn't start with these shots and were quick to filming outside. I had Karah switch into her PJs she brought and jump into the bed. We took a couple shots, but something wasn't right. Karah suggested we turned off the lights and open the blinds. That was exactly what we needed, it looked so much nicer. It also executed my goal of mostly using natural lighting for this project. We filmed two shots of her in her PJs then I had her switch back into Aurora's official outfit for school. We filmed a couple shots, such as her putting lipstick on in the bathroom mirror.

  And that was a wrap!

I enjoyed filming with these girls so much. I'm left satisfied with my selection for who I wanted to play these characters. My mother also did a good job with her lines as well and I'm glad I was able to use her for Aurora's mother. My mother has been such a big help with this project, I'm so grateful for her.
