#6- I LOVE Greta Gerwig

Greta Gerwig was born on August 4th, 1983 in Sacramento, California. She is the child of Gordon and Christine Gerwig. Little did they know she would become a very incredible actress, playwright, screenwriter, and director. She is very well known for her significant impact on the film industry with her beautiful storytelling and relatable characters. In her younger years she took part in theatre productions at Saint Francis High School, which was an all-girls Roman Catholic high school. Then she continued her education at Barnard College where she graduated with a degree in English and Philosophy. On the performance end of things, throughout college she preformed in the Columbia University Varsity show with her old dorm roommate and now close friend, Kate McKinnon. Kate went on to star in Saturday Night Life and has a role in Greta's newest movie "Barbie." Greta Gerwig has always had a great relationship with woman and love the complexity that makes women who they are. This is why I love her so much, she truly is able to communicate what being a complex and unique woman is like. Me and so many other young girls and women love her storytelling because of this reason. We are able to enjoy and relate to her beautiful characters.

She broke into the film scene in 2006 where she had minor rolls in the films "LOL" and "Baghead." She then co-wrote the films "Hannah Takes the Stairs" (2007) and "Nights and Weekends" (2008) with Joe Swanberg. She then married her now husband Noah Baumbach after starring in his 2010 film "Greenberg." In 2013 she co-wrote and starred in "Frances Ha," which she received a Golden Globe nomination for Best Actress- Motion Picture Comedy or Musical.

Let's get into where I know her from: LADY BIRD! 2017, the year of the best films in my opinion. We of course have Lady Bird, but we also have IT, Call Me by Your Name, Baby Driver, Beauty and The Beast, Wonder, a few of the best Marvel movies and so much more. This is the year that Greta made her directorial debut with the film Lady Bird. This film stars two well known names, in my opinion, Saoirse Ronan and Timothee Chalamet. This film follows a 17-year-old girl and her awkward teenage experience. It discusses difficult relations with boys and her mother. It will make you laugh and cry, speaking from personal experience. Lady Bird is such a relatable character and the movie has left me with a new perspective on being a teenage girl.

Then in 2019 Greta Gerwig wrote and directed Little Women. Another beautiful and phenomenal film, that will leave tears in your eyes. This movie has an amazing cast, full of very well known names in the film industry. This includes Saoirse Ronana and Timothee Chalamet again, Emma Watson, Florence Pugh, Laura Dern (known for her role in Jurassic Park), and Meryl Streep. This isn't the first film adaptation of the Little Women book written by Louisa May Alcott in 1868, however, in my opinion it is the best. It tells the story of four sisters in the 1800s, it shows their relationships with each other and other characters, what it was like to be women during that time, how they deal with the death of a sister, and growing out of childhood and becoming the women they were meant to be. Such a beautiful story with incredibly relatable characters.

Now we have pink, sparkly, Margot Robbie in Barbie! This film has attracted all different kinds of people from all around the world, this is one of the most popular movies released this year! This film has made Greta Gerwig the first female director with the largest box office opening weekend in history. She did an amazing job at making a drama comedy movie that has audiences laughing and crying. Barbie wasn't all about being this beautiful blonde doll, but it communicates with audiences that the world is pretty hard on women and it's important that we don't get discourage and be who we are. It tells the audience full of women and young girls that they have so much potential and theat they are important and beautiful as who they are!

Greta Gerwig has such a beautiful and powerful impact on me and many other young women like me. She has been so successful and has shown that she is a great director in the film industry. She is most definitely not done make film history and has such a great future ahead of her.
