#17- My Characters

For my story there will be many characters introduced throughout the film, however, they won't be introduced in my final project. In the introduction of film, we usually only get introduced to the main character. In the beginning two minutes of my narrative I will only introduce my main character, her best friend and I think I'm also going to introduce her mother (I think/Not completely set on the idea). I will come to a decision of all the minor stuff about my characters and if I will introduce the mother when I have my actors.

For my main character, I want to make someone that many teen girls can relate too. A girl with strong opinions, does good in school, is pretty and dresses nice... maybe even has a coffee addiction and love for books, which are very teen things. Her make up will be light and her outfits will be pretty basic, but she makes up for that with her mind. She wants to do something important, like write a book or become a politician. She wants to be heard, but she is also a teenage girl right now. She has her whole life, but she is so stuck on the thought that she has to live through something or do something now or her childhood would be a waste. The name I have decided for her is Aurora Anderson.

Shown here is some pictures of Kat Stratford from 10 Things I hate about You. My main character will be similar to her, with strong opinions a stylish outfits for the era. In another blog post I'll discuss the costume design in more depth.

My second character I want to introduce in my final project is my main character's best friend, I'm thinking the name Josie Kratt. She is a very unique "side character," I use this term because we won't really explore her story. She is helping with the character development of Aurora, and is playing part in the theme of human relationships. She has a sort of edgy look to her, with prominent make up and a darker wardrobe. Her personality will differ very much from Aurora and the audience will see within the introduction how they communicate with each other and how their personalities go together. This character will bring a lot of comically relief to the story, which will only be used a little bit in my introductory two minutes.
The first character that came into mind when I thought of edgy was Maeve Wiley from Sex Education. This show is very good example of a dramedy with teen relationships. I'm inspired by her blunt personality and comic relief. However, even if her style is also edgy I'm not going to use her at for costume design inspiration.

I will update the blog when I decide if I want to introduce Aurora's mother into the final cut, but I do want to address their relationship. Aurora and her mother will be so alike that they will butt heads over and over again until the end of time. So, if I do introduce her mother it will be a quick second before Aurora leaves her house for school. In the kitchen they will have a little argument about the right food to eat for breakfast. I think a scene where Aurora goes to grab and apple and her mom makes a comment about what she had grabbed to eat, for example "you're really just going to eat that for breakfast?" Aurora will give back a quick witty response that leaves her mom annoyed. I'm not completely set on the idea yet, but I will update the blog when I decide what's best for my narrative and what will fit in my two minutes.
