#22- Filming Day One
September 19, 2023
Location: My neighborhood
Time: Late afternoon
Today I filmed my establishing shots. My goal was to get footage of the cows and horses in the fields in the front of my neighborhood. As well as an establishing long-shot of the front of my house. All of this accomplished the goal of creating the setting for my audience. The audience will understand that this action will take place within this neighborhood and in this house.
My storyboard included each one of these establishing shots. When it comes to the editing process if I go over two minutes one of the establishing shots of the cows or horse will have to go. Which is sad because I enjoyed the idea of setting up a rural setting for the narrative. So the character can have reason to be stubborn and want more for her life than what it is. Having a rural setting can allow the argument that the character wants to escape this small country town and get out into the world.
In my storyboard I had a shot I wanted to do of the street. However, during filming I decided against it. I believe it would be too much to add. I have realized that my film will probably be at least a little different than my original storyboard. So, I'm considering making an official storyboard or writing a blog post about how different it ended up being.
In conclusion, the first day of filming was simple and enjoyable. My mother and I went on a golf cart ride around the neighborhood and stopped to film the cows and horses. The cows loved the camera and were posing for me, I got a few cute pictures.
