For costumes I had told my actors to bring clothes from their own closets. This is because I don't have a budget for costumes. Same for their make-up, I had them do their own make-up. However, I didn't give them free range. I had a group chat with my actors telling them about their characters and what I expect from them.
AURORA:
I told Karah that Aurora's colors were pink and white and she wears light make-up. She wore a pink top, white shorts and white shoes. She brought her make-up bag so we can do light music, and use her make-up in the shot where her character is getting ready for school. For her character we used a light-pink backpack to continue the pink theme. I did these colors for Aurora because it feels right for her, she is opinionated and loves being a girl. So pink just felt right, and white looks good with pink.
In the two first shots where the audience sees Aurora she is getting out of bed. So, I had Karah bring a cute pajama set. We stuck to the white and pink color scheme for the character, so the PJs are white.
I'm not going to make a blog post of props, but the props I used for Aurora were headphones and an apple. This just helps explain why there is music and give plot details. Without the prop of the apple I wouldn't have her and her mom argue over it.
JOSIE:
I told Reese that Josie's colors were black, dark green and burgundy. Reese already had burgundy hair, so for that color she was good. For clothes she brought a black and gray sweater. Which I told her to bring a sweater and jeans. For shoes she just wore black converse, which are very popular among teenage girls. We kept this theme with her backpack, choosing to do a black and gray bag. Make-up wise I wanted her to wear darker make-up than Aurora would wear, so black eyeliner, mascara and a faintly red tinted lipstick. Her character is supposed to be a more edgy teen, so that why I decided to choose these colors, clothes and make-up for her.
