#7- Grand Army (2020)

This show is example beautiful of a streaming show telling not just one story, but multiple. The show gets pretty graphic, so I wouldn't recommend in to younger audiences. However, this show discusses very important and serious scenarios teens may/will experience. Examples are how your race is perceived by others and sexual assault. My final project won't discuss either of those issues, but the show did a perfect job at showing how teenagers interact with each other. I will be taking inspiration from the interactions between characters to try to help how I want my characters to interact with each other.

There are many different examples of types of teen relationships within the show. However, I'm going to portray an interaction between two close friends in my final project (and maybe a mother-daughter interaction).

One of the main characters, Joey reminds me most of the type of character I want to create for my final project. She is very independent and progressive. My main character will be very confident in herself and opinions, however, unlike Joey she'll be kept to herself. Joey puts herself out there gaining a lot of negative attention, which my main character doesn't want.

Anyways, I'm not getting a lot of character design inspiration from this show. I'm getting inspiration of teen character interactions, specifically between best friends. I enjoyed how the writers wrote the friendship between Joey and Anna, and will be using their conversations to help me write my script.

In this scene there in bed talking about Joey's relationship with a boy. They both are happy with each others company and are having a "girl talk." My characters won't be in bed, they will be walking to school together. However, I'm thinking about adding a few lines about a boy from school that is interested in my main character. The excited giggles and playful conversation will make the conversation more relatable to many young girls. There conversation in the show wasn't strictly giggles, Anna also becomes serious with Joey. Since the boy is Anna's brother, she makes Joey know that whatever she does she better not hurt her brother because Joey means a lot to both of them. I'm thinking about adding a serious part after they finish giggling about the boy where my main character goes serious and talk about how a boy will ruin her future. This is because my main character is very independent and believes a boy will only hold her back from her dreams.

In conclusion, I believe the Grand Army is well done piece of media. It is beautifully shot and has very relatable characters and scenarios. It has helped guide me to creating a fluid and relatable conversation for my final project.
